Nine minutes into the visual observation, at 20:44 UTC, Évreux's radar detected an echo at bearing 300° — the same direction as the visually observed light — at a range of 18 nautical miles, moving toward bearing 330° at an estimated 30 to 40 knots. The echo's intensity was recorded as very weak: 1 on a 5-point scale. It was tracked continuously for approximately seven minutes, terminating at 20:51 UTC in step with the end of the visual sighting.
Several features of this contact are worth isolating individually, because they cut in different directions for the case's overall credibility. In favor of a genuine correlation: the radar bearing (300°) matches the visually reported azimuth exactly; the contact appeared roughly nine minutes into a sighting already in progress, exactly when one would expect if the officer requested the check partway through rather than immediately, and it terminated at precisely the same minute the visual sighting ended, a simultaneity GEPAN's investigators treated as significant enough to specifically address the report's dating discrepancy (below) in order to preserve.
